Blessed are you who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways! For you shall eat the fruit of your handiwork; blessed shall you be, and favored. - Psalm 128

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

The calendar month of October is filled with the names of saints and even include the guardian angels.
Some of the best known names include:

  • October 1 - St. Therese of the Child Jesus
(died at the age of 24, noted for her "little way" of following Jesus. Doctor of the Church)
  • October 2 - The Guardian Angels
  • October 4 - St. Francis of Assisi
  • October 5 - Blessed Francis Xavier Sedos
(born in Germany in 1819 and came to the U.S. and as a priest worked with Bishop Saint John Neumann.)
  • October 6 - Blessed Marie Rose Durocher (founded religious order dedicated to teaching)
and St. Bruno (also a teacher and advisor to Pope Urban II in the year 1088)
  • October 7 - Our Lady of the Rosary
  • October 9 - St. Denis (1st. Bishop of Paris, martyr)
St. John Leonardi (priest who trained seminarians)
  • October 11 - St. John XXIII, Pope
  • October 15 - St. Theresa of Jesus
(Carmelite mystic, advisor to the Pope and Doctor of the Church)
  • October 16 - St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, St. Hedwig
  • October 17 - St. Ignatius of Antioch
(Bishop and brave martyr who died in the Roman Ampitheater around the year 107, wrote seven major letters still preserved today)
  • October 18 - St. Luke Evangelist
  • October 19 - St. Isaac Jogues, St. John de Brebeuf and companions
(North American martyrs, with shrine in Auriesville, NY.)
  • October 20 - St. Paul of the Cross
(the name of our nearby Webster Parish!)
  • October 22 - St. John Paul II, Pope
  • October 23 - St. John of Capistrano
(Franciscan reformer, patron of Military chaplains)
  • October 24 - St. Anthony Mary Claret
(1849 from Catalonia, started the Claretian order. Fostered credit unions and the apostolate of the press.)
  • November 1 - Feast of All Saints

As you can see, our Church is blessed by those who have given of their lives as heroic witnesses of faith.
We are the people next in line that are called to do the same.

May God bless you!
Fr. Gonyo
